Anesco backs Electricity Demand Reduction scheme

National energy efficiency solutions company, Anesco, is backing a new Government scheme that aims to help reduce electricity demands by incentivising organisations to install energy saving equipment.
The Electricity Demand Reduction (EDR) scheme has been introduced by DECC to help reduce energy consumption and achieve reductions in peak electricity demand. Under the pilot scheme organisations will be paid to implement projects which reduce electricity demand during peak hours.
The first EDR pilot auction will be for up to £10m and will take place in January 2015, with companies invited to formally express their interest by 30 September. It is open to organisations in all sectors.
The pilot is being run to provide an insight into whether capacity savings resulting from the installation of more efficient electrical equipment could form part of the Capacity Market.
“This scheme has great potential and complements the holistic approach to energy efficiency we take at Anesco, “commented Adrian Pike, CEO of Anesco. “Reducing carbon emissions and managing energy demands remains a key challenge for the UK. Finding innovative ways to help encourage and enable organisations to upgrade their equipment and implement efficiency measures is an important part of this process.”
Anesco works with businesses, housing associations, local authorities and homeowners to reduce their carbon emissions. Through its work, Anesco has helped to take over 65,000 people out of fuel poverty and the renewable technologies it has deployed are now generating enough power for more than 70,000 homes, saving over 101,000 tonnes of carbon per year.
