Eight volunteers from local energy efficiency solutions company, Anesco, have gone the extra mile – in fact 26.2 of them – to raise funds and awareness for a leading cancer charity.
The team has raised thousands of pounds in sponsorship and donations for Cancer Research UK after successfully completing the London marathon. The race was the latest fundraising activity to be undertaken by Anesco in aid of the charity, with the company having raised over £40,000 to date and well on its way to its £50,000 target.
Commenting on the race, Martin Simmons said: “This was the first marathon for most of the team and we were all determined to do it in aid of such a worthwhile cause.
“The charity and its work really struck a chord with all of the runners, as everyone has been touched by cancer at some point in their lives. It spurred us on through the miles, especially towards the end when it got tougher – the finish line was a very welcome sight!”
According to Cancer Research UK, every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. The money raised by Anesco will go towards funding scientists and clinical trials with the aim of helping to get closer to finding a cure.
Martin added: “The support we received has been fantastic – not just from our friends and family, but from our suppliers and customers. Everyone has got completely behind the team and been incredibly generous. The donations are still pouring in and we’re fast approaching our fundraising target, which is just amazing and makes it all very worthwhile.”
Helen Jackson, head of sports at Cancer Research UK, commented: “Cancer Research UK is so grateful for all the fundraising efforts of the Anesco Corporate Challenge team. The income from the 2015 London Marathon is being restricted to the Francis Crick Institute; a ground-breaking new research centre being built in King’s Cross and due to open next year. One day we’ll cure cancer, and thanks to the generosity of teams like Anesco, we are working to make it sooner.”
Adrian Pike, Anesco CEO, said: “We’re really proud of the marathon team. From pushing themselves on to train through the cold and wet winter months, to completing the 26.2 miles on the day, the team has shown true determination and grit.
“It’s been great to see everyone at Anesco getting involved in the fundraising in one way or another; from taking part in activities in the office, to standing on the side lines cheering the marathon team on. The efforts the whole team has made have raised a huge amount for the charity.”
The Anesco marathon runners were Anna Cousins, Matt Sandell, James Golding, Martin Simmons, Danielle Coles, Mark Harding, Lee Adams and Martin Kipling.
