The largest optimised solar farm in Europe has been installed by Anesco using Trinasmart photovoltaic modules supplied by Trina Solar.
Situated in Pen Y Cae, near Powys, South Wales, the 6.9MW array was commissioned in March 2015 and is now generating electricity to the grid.
The installation incorporates patented Trinasmart technology, a complete solution which includes power optimisation to increase system performance by up to 20 per cent together with monitoring built into the module junction box.
Unlike other modules, Trinasmart allows monitoring and control of the PV array at the module level rather than at inverter level. A web based platform means that system performance can also be monitored and controlled in real time with a smart mobile device or PC.
The system also improves the safety of the PV system: in cases of electrical failure affected modules are shut down automatically. Moreover, in the case of a fire emergency, the modules can be totally deactivated with a single click to eliminate high voltages and secure the safety of the emergency services.
Adrian Pike CEO of Anesco, the UK’s leading energy efficiency solutions company, said: “Once again Anesco is leading the way in technological advances. This installation – on this scale – is an important milestone and underlines our commitment to pushing the boundaries of solar energy production.
“Our collaboration with Trina Solar demonstrates what can be achieved when likeminded organisations on a global scale work collaboratively to solve and create real opportunities within the electricity market.”
Anesco has forged strong relationships with manufacturers across the globe, including Europe, the US and Asia, working with teams to see how products and new innovations can best be developed and deployed for the UK market.
Ben Hill, president for Europe and Africa at Trina Solar, said: “Trina Solar has built its business on providing high-quality, innovative products and value-add services such as Trinasmart to the market, and on maintaining a position as a prudent and reliable partner.
“As the market leader in the UK, it is hugely satisfying to be working alongside an organisation with the reputation of Anesco to deliver the largest optimised solar farm in Europe. It is this kind of innovation which keeps both our organisations ahead of the game which is vital in the fast changing solar PV sector.”
Anesco gets green light for 48MW Staffordshire solar farm
Anesco has received planning permission from South Staffordshire Council for the development of a 48-megawatt solar farm in Coven, Staffordshire. The 143-acre site will generate enough green electricity to power around 13,000 homes and save approximately 10,000 tonnes...
