Anesco powers up 10MW solar farm for Dragon LNG as terminal targets net zero by 2029

Anesco has successfully energised a 10MW solar farm for Dragon LNG, located at the operator’s liquefied natural gas (‘LNG’) terminal in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire. The project marks a significant step forward in Dragon LNG’s transition to renewable energy, as it commits to becoming a Net Zero LNG Terminal by 2029.

The solar park at the Waterston site has been designed and constructed by Anesco, who will be providing ongoing operations and maintenance services to ensure the installation continues to operate at its optimum efficiency. The solar park, which comprises 18,500 solar panels, has benefited from an advanced biodiversity plan that has seen the creation of habitats for local wildlife and at-risk species.

Energy generated by the solar park will provide around 9% of the terminal’s electricity needs and will also supply energy to neighbouring businesses. It will reduce Dragon’s Scope 2 CO2 emissions by around 2,500 tonnes per year.

Rt. Hon Stephen Crabb MP, along with stakeholders and representatives from Dragon and Anesco, were invited to attend a special event, held on site to mark the official switch on of the solar park.

Dragon Managing Director, Simon Ames, commented: “Energising the solar farm is a significant milestone and the result of a highly motivated team achieving this important project safely. Working with industry partners, educational institutes, and governmental bodies we are committed to not only playing our part in achieving net zero but continuing to develop local skills and employment opportunities in South Wales for many decades to come”.

Hildagarde McCarville, Anesco CEO, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Dragon LNG on this project and to support the successful first steps of the terminal’s transition to renewable energy. The project has received a fantastic response from the local community and we look forward to continuing our partnership to further support Dragon with its net zero ambitions.”

Established in Reading in 2010, Anesco is a UK market leader in renewable energy and energy efficiency. The company has developed more than 130 solar farms and battery storage facilities to date, while its renewables operation and maintenance arm has more than 1.4GW of renewable energy under management.
