Anesco secures Lombard project financing across three renewable energy sites

Renewable energy company, Anesco, has successfully secured project financing with Lombard to support the development and operation of three UK sites.

The financing covers a portfolio of projects at different stages of delivery: Woodwalton, a 21MWp solar farm in Cambridgeshire that is fully operational and generating clean energy; Rothienorman, a 50MW/100MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Scotland, now in the final stages of construction ahead of commissioning; and Coven, a 48.5MWp solar farm in Staffordshire that recently achieved financial close, enabling the next phase of its development.

The agreement with Lombard represents a strong mark of confidence in Anesco’s ability to develop, finance, construct, and operate high-quality renewable energy assets.

Anesco CEO, Hildagarde McCarville, said: “The successful completion of this financing across projects at different stages of their lifecycle demonstrates the strength of our delivery, our pipeline, and our partnerships. We are pleased to be working with Lombard to move forward with these projects, which will contribute to the UK’s energy transition and energy
security, while creating long-term value for our stakeholders.”

For Lombard, the investment highlights its role in financing infrastructure that accelerates energy security and decarbonisation.

Tom Bosson, Head of Renewable Energy Lending for Lombard said: “We are pleased to support Anesco with financing across this portfolio of renewable energy assets, spanning both solar generation and battery storage. The Woodwalton, Rothienorman and Coven projects demonstrate the scale and variety of infrastructure supporting the UK’s energy transition. By working with experienced developers such as Anesco, we can help bring forward investment in renewable energy and storage technologies that are expected to play an important role in supporting a more resilient energy system and the UK’s pathway to net-zero.”

Founded and headquartered in the UK, Anesco has safely delivered 1.3GW of solar and storage assets and has a growing presence across Northern Europe, including the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium. The company develops, designs, constructs, maintains, operates and optimises grid-scale renewable energy assets, and currently manages a portfolio of more than 1.3GW of assets on behalf of leading investors.

Anesco is a portfolio company of Ara Partners and Nature Infrastructure Capital.
