Land at Blackpark Farm, Nairn

Background

Anesco are working to progress a planning application for the development of a Grid Battery Energy Storage Facility on land at Blackpark Farm, Nairn, Highland, IV12 5HY. The proposed development will be utilised to store generated energy, to be released onto the national grid when consumers need it most, and combat the intermittent nature of renewable energy generation.

Anesco have completed a comprehensive site selection process across Scotland, appraising sites based on planning and environmental factors as well as the sites’ efficiency in meeting the system need which is strongly governed by the location on the electrical grid. The site which we are consulting on has been identified as suitable for such a project.

This community engagement process is intended to inform the local community of our proposals and give you the opportunity to provide us with your thoughts, questions and ideas prior to the formal planning application being submitted.

A PAN was submitted to the Council in September 2022 and this signalled the intention of the applicant to submit an application for planning permission. A copy of this was also sent to Local Ward Members, MP Drew Hendry, MSP Fergus Ewing, Auldearn Community Council, Nairn River Community Council and Cawdor and West Nairnshire Community Council, which is understood to cover the site and immediate surrounding area.
Initial feedback is being sought from the community on the information presented, to help inform the preparation of plans for the proposed development.
